Bonnie O. Carlson, M.S., OTR/L
Pediatric Occupational Therapist
Bonnie grew up in the Chicago area and worked in Boston and Chicago before moving to Portland in 1998. She began her career working with adults, specializing in stroke and traumatic brain injury, before shifting her focus to working with children exclusively. She worked on the inpatient rehabilitation, acute care and outpatient units at Emanuel Children’s Hospital (now Randall Children’s Hospital) from 1998 to 2001. She took a “sabbatical” while her children were young and returned to work at Meridian Park Hospital in 2006, when Legacy opened an outpatient pediatric rehabilitation clinic.
She joined Sanders Hand Therapy in early 2016 and developed their Pediatric OT program. Her clinical interests include working with children who have developmental disorders, hemiplegia, sensory processing dysfunction, obstetric brachial plexus injury, juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, traumatic brain injury and autism spectrum disorder. She has advanced training in a variety of areas and expertise in the fabrication of upper extremity casts and splints. Her interest in working with adults with hand injuries developed naturally as a result of her background in hand development and function in children. She enjoys fitness, entertaining, youth sports and travelling with her family. She is married and has two sons, a golden retriever, two cats and a bearded dragon.
